Not exactly trying to win a contest here. The wildfires up in Canada blew so much smoke as to make the air smell like burning rubber here in suburban Chicago. This picture was snapped at 2:45 PM on the 16th of July 2026. The electrical transmission line down the road is less than a 1/2 mile away. It was an arid day-no fog. No filters were employed over the lens. The lens is in good condition. Just a slight color correction in Pix.

Welcome to summer in California. We always brace for the very worst here and assume we're safe during winter. #PacificPalisades #Arcadia #NOPE
I hope everyone is safe.

This photo contains an element typical to a cityscape of LosAngeles; so again, there is nothing particularly special about it. But the air smelled so bad that people were told to remain inside. Some people wore face masks. In photography it is easy to capture forms, features, and basic information. Some photos can do a good job of conveying motion. With proper lighting, there are ways to highlight the texture of something. Sometimes a photo can evoke a din or complete silence. This was my attempt to capture a smell.

You were definitely successful. As soon as I saw it, I felt the sensation.
