Hello, I am attempting to install a brand new Canon RS40 Scanner on my Windows 11 laptop and I am receiving an error when installing the drivers and the scanner is showing as "No driver installed" when plugged into the laptop. The error is this:CANON INSTALL ERROR.jpg
Please assist. I do not want to return this scanner.
Thank you.

Greetings,
While we look into this for you, can you please tell us if your computer is based on Intel/AMD architecture or Snapdragon Windows ARM?

It is an Intel Core i7 Dell laptop. Thanks.

Greetings,
Thank you.
Did this system have a scanner installed previously?
Did you connect the scanner to the system before or after attempting to install the scanner driver?
When prompted, its important that you are connecting directly to an available USB port on the motherboard and not to an accessory port on a peripheral or through a hub.
Drivers for the RS40 are available here:
Canon Support for imageFORMULA RS40 Photo and Document Scanner | Canon U.S.A., Inc. https://share.google/xKEMObVhcAvknLpHd
I have next steps, but I need for you to answer the above questions.

Hi, the scanner was connected after attempting to install the driver - which never installed because once I clicked the "Ok" button at the bottom of that error, it appeared that the installation completed successfully. It was connected directly to the laptop onboard USB port. I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling and "repairing" the driver, but that message appears each time I attempt to do any of these. Of course, the scanner has been unplugged now and will remain unplugged until I am able to install the drivers with no error.

Also, I noticed that when it prompted me to plug the scanner into the laptop (which I did), it didn't recognize it and "automatically continue).

The laptop did not have a scanner installed previously.

Good morning,
Thank you for all that information.
Your error is generic. It just says that one or more of the command line switches that the program uses to install was invalid or didn't work.
The software used to come with some tools for troubleshooting and repair. I'm going to download them to check and see if they're still available.
It's good that you didn't connect the the scanner until prompted to do so, and that you're connecting directly to the motherboard.
Are you using any third party antivirus software, something besides window security that comes with Windows? The software must also be installed under a user with administrator user permissions / privileges.
I'll need a few moments to download and inspect the software packages.
If you are in a hurry, support is also available directly from Canon. Their number is 1-800-652-2666. I am not a Canon employee, just a fellow user like you 🙂.

Thanks Rick. Do Canon employees parse these community pages? If you find anything in the installers to help troubleshoot an install problem, please let me know.

I was able to follow some instructions Canon support gave me to extract the driver INF files from the installer TEMP folder and save them elsewhere so I can use the device manager to point Windows to the driver, but now I am getting a driver signature error... Progress, but not solved yet.
