I have a Canon LIDE 400 scanner connected to an M1 MacBook Air running Tahoe 26.2. I have reloaded the scanner, updated the scanner driver to Tahoe and rebooted the laptop. When I plug the scanner in via an adapter to the USB-C port, I hear the scanner do a quick check but when I open the Canon IJ Scan Utility Lite and press any option I get the message "Failed to make a connection to the device". My scanner has always worked before the Tahoe update so I don't know what is wrong.

Hi jdmoregon,
As a test, please attempt to scan using Image Capture.
support.apple.com > Image Capture User Guide for macOS
Does Image Capture detect your scanner?
If so, are you able to use Image Capture to scan?

Sorry not getting back to you, I was out of town. No Image Capture does not detect my scanner.

Patrick, I deleted and re-installed the Canon Software, and removed the Scanner from Settings for Printers and Scanners and then restarted my Mac leaving Image Capture open. Upon starting, the scanner did an apparent scan to a tiff file. I tried scanning again in Image Cap and it scanned a second time. However, when I tried to open the images, there was only a couple dots even though the Image Cap window showed the full page. Also, when I went into Settings, the Printer Capture identified the LIDE 400 but when I said Add to set up the device it searched for a long time and then a window opened that said: An error occurred while trying to add the selected device. Unable to communicate with the printer a this time." Hope this helps. John

Hi jdmoregon,

Yes, it is a genuine Apple one-to-one (not multi) adapter.

I have a Canon Pixa 492 using an M3 MacBook Air tunning Tahoe 26.2. I am having a similar problem. The MacBook Air will not allow the scanner to communicate with it. I uploaded the J2 scan utility, updated all firmware, deleted it from my printer and added it back. It's on the same network as my MacBook. It shows up on Image Capture and it pulls up in the Canon Scan Utility, when I try to scan I get the same error code that the USB cable is not plugged in. I have never used a USB. I have made sure I have no firewall running, I have no antivirus running. I have checked security/privacy and the scanner is on the approved list. I believe this is a MAC issue that came with Tahoe 26. I can scan from my phone using Canon App, then airdrop the image to my laptop, which shows me that the scanner is willing. I can print from the MacBook Air to the Canon. It's just the iOS that won't let the scanner talk back to it. I think this is a Tahoe issue and will be reaching out to Apple today via phone as their online community seems to be having connection errors. Maybe they have also updated to Tahoe 26.2. lol

I am having the same problem. It worked great until I updated to Mac OS Tahoe 26.2. Now the Canon utility cannot find the scanner (although if I press a button on the scanner, the utility attempts to look for scanners so it seems to be connected?)
