Hi! I just got a Vixia HF R72 and was looking for a 24 mm lens. I have searched but have found none recommend directly from Canon. I do have found, on the other hand, a deal on Amazon but read they are not really very good. Is there a Canon lens that I could purchase to enhance my Vixia or is it not necessary or recommended due to its quite good characteristics. TIA

I have looked in an effort to provide you with an answer but have found nothing useful other than what you found on Amazon. The only two add-on lenses I found on the Canon site were not compatible with your camcorder. I have add-on lenses my camcorders (old models) from another brand but have found that I rarely use them. Of the ones I have the wide angle lens is the one I have used the most. I have not found a 24mm add-on lens. The ones I have seen range from 0.43 - 0.45x. The 24mm sounds more like a lens for a DSLR or a high end camcorder with interchangeable lenses.

The add-on lenses I have are 37mm for the Sony HDR-HC1. The 0.5x Wide Angle Lens with macro and the 2.0X Telephhoto lenses are made by Digital Concept. The 0.3X Fisheye lens is made by Neewer. The 0.6X Wide Angle conversion lens is made by Sony. Most of the filters (UV, Neutral Density, FLD, and Polarizing) are made by Tiffen. Opteka may be a brand worth looking into. If you consider Digital Concepts then I would suggest you only buy one, since they are inexpensive, and try it to see if the quality is up to your expectations.
