EOS C70 metadata not appearing in DaVinci or Assimilate

So I shot some scripted work over the weekend. I haven't ever had issues with the metadata for clips, reels, camera, etc. But, for the first time I used the fields "scene" and "take."

In davinci (and assimilate) that metadata did not appear in their respective fields. I went home, initialized the cards, typed in new metadata, and it's still missing. What am I missing?

You didn't say what mode you're shooting in.

I tried a quick experiment shooting in XF-AVC, RAW ST, and MP4.  In XF-AVC and MP4, the text I entered for the scene and take doesn't appear anywhere in the generated files (including the .XML file).  So, plainly, in these modes, the camera isn't recording this info.

In RAW ST, however, the scene and take texts do appear in the generated .CRM file.  (I'm using "grep --binary-files=text".)  However I couldn't get these to display in Premiere Pro or Adobe Bridge.  So I guess these are being recorded, but not in a standard meta-data location.  I can't find anywhere in Cinema RAW Development to see this information, or any other meta-data.

So mabe you need some other Canon software to get to it?  I dunno.  Sorry.

Just tried a quick test on the R5C... it's a little different there, as the scene and shot names do appear in the MP4 file, as well as the RAW.  However once again it seems they're embedded in some non-standard format; I can't make them appear in Premiere or Resolve.

I guess your best hope is that there is some Canon utility that can extract this.

I shot everything in raw but if what you are saying is correct then neither davinci nor premiere are showing pretty important metadata?? That seems odd. Any ideas on how to get it to show?

I get that this is frustrating, but I already answered that question.  "I couldn't get these to display in Premiere Pro or Adobe Bridge".  If there was a menu option called "show more meta-data", I would already have clicked it.

Certainly it's wierd and frustrating that the camera lets you set these, but there seems to be no easy way to get at the info.  You could try raising a feature request with Adobe to get them to pick this data out and display it; but if it's buried in some proprietary format, that may not be practical.  You could likewise try raising a feature request with Canon, to get them to save it in a more standard way.  Good luck.

Well it's not specifically adobe was my point. I tried two other pieces of software, and most recently, canon XF utility. So the frustating part is that NO NLE or metadata software that I've used is recognizing this metadata.

I've reached out to davinci at this point, and I'm going to send a request to canon as well. I'll update the thread if i get any good information.

Have they bothered to standardize this kind of stuff yet? We are so spoiled by the EXIF standard.

I suggest you ask the Da Vinci or Adobe boards how to get this data to work.
