Greetings,
Anyone else considering? The R5C was not the road I anticipated taking, but I'm tired of waiting and since this body doesn't overheat, I am more confident about it over the standard R5.
Although I am a stills shooter, the Cinema EOS side of the body is intriguing. Its so much smaller than a C70. I'm not serious enough about video that I'd miss Clog2. The body has 16 14 stops so plenty of DR for my use. Its also not limited to Super35 or 16 (which isn't so much a limitation), but Canon has really stepped up here. I don't care about ibis. All of my lenses except 1 are IS and the body has digital IS built in. I have purchased a bunch of accessories. Control Ring Adapter, 2 512GB CF ExpressB, 2 128GB UHSII, 2x Watson batteries (Canon was out of stock), and I've not tried Manfrotto batteries yet.
Going to try the AngelBird CFExpress cards and ProGrade for the XD Cards. I've always used SanDisk so going to try something else. Both are highly rated.
I also contacted EasyCover in the Netherlands and my contact there has said they do not plan to make a skin for the R5C. Was hoping for this, but am more excited about a new body. Haven't pulled the trigger quite yet. I have a quick business trip and wanted to be back for the arrival. Plan to wait a week. If nothing glaring is reported, I will finally move to mirrorless.

Sorry, I just found this... yes, you have complete control over the C70's audio inputs. Well, almost.
The C70 always records 4 channels of audio, in two stereo pairs. You can set each pair to be either the built-in mic, or the 3.5mm input, or the two XLR inputs. With the XLR inputs, you can also set channel 2 to be a copy of channel 1, if you want.

Hello,
Thank you for the reply. The audio menus on the R5c are grayed out when no mic is attached, or when an external XLR mic is attached via adapter. However, it appears that the internal mic is always active, and there does not seem to be any means of defeating it. I've been wondering if the menus would become active if a mic were to be plugged directly into the camera's own input, but I do not have an appropriate mic. The documentation is not helpful, and Canon support does not appear to have a clue as to why the menus are grayed out. As this is not an isolated issue—many have encountered the same—I am hopeful that Canon will eventually address this in firmware. For the time being, I simply delete the internally recorded tracks in post.

Ron

Thanks for the info! That's different to the R5, which only records stereo. I guess the R5c has more tracks because it has the multi-function hot shoe.

FYI:
I had spoken with Canon Cine Tech Support —for the second time—more than a week ago about the grayed out audio menus on the R5c. The tech had promised a call back but that has never taken place. But after reading and re-reading the manual, I got the impression that those menus might be microphone specific. The manual points to the Canon DM-E1D Stereo Microphone, and I have a suspicion that sliding that mic onto the multi-function hot-shoe will open up those menus. The mic is backordered everywhere, so there is no way to test that theory at the moment.

I just got my R5C -- given the tight supplies, I pre-ordered it thinking it would be a nice surprise if it arrived in August and I had it in my hands 6 days later! So now I have to find a constructive use for it... 😉
Anyhow... like you, I see that all the audio controls in the menu are greyed out if there's no mic attached. It just records the built-in mic to all 4 channels.
Plugging anything into the 3.5mm mic socket changes that. The 3.5mm input is mapped to channels 1 & 2; the internal mic still records to channels 3 & 4. The menus are now active, and let me choose how to set the levels for channels 1 & 2, only.
You can see this in action using the status screens. If you haven't already, I suggest mapping a button to be Status; the audio screen in Status will show you what all the audio channels are doing.
I don't have anything that connects to the hot shoe, to test that out.
Hope this helps...

I've just received an email indicating that my R5c has been shipped overnight to my address, and I should have it in hand tomorrow. I will report back once I've had the time to charge the battery and shoot some test footage. I am interested to see how it intercuts with the C300 MK III's output.

Did you end up getting your camera? I ordered mine and got an email that it's shipping soon.
If you did get it may I ask when you put in the pre-order?

Greetings,
I think you'll be happy. I spent another 4 hrs last weekend researching. I watched about 40 videos on the R5, C70 and R5C. Will await your update.

Hi Rick,
The camera should have been delivered by 10:30 this morning, but it is now after 1 P.M. and they still have not shown up. Tracking shows that it is on the truck for delivery, but FedEx has not been very reliable this year. Therefore, it will probably be a few days before I will be able to make any worthwhile comments in re the R5c, but I had done my research as well, and I am hoping that it plays nicely with the C300 Mk III's output.
Regards,
Ron

You are very lucky. I'm hearing now that shipments might have been paused. Not only in Canada and the AU, but also elsewhere. New release date 5/28? This is unconfirmed, however. Noticed ship dates on the biggest suppliers went from shipping 4/4 to "Coming Soon" and "Back Ordered'. I don't need one until Aug. / latest. Short trip to Hawaii planned in May (6D2 is fine). Bigger trip planned in Sept. but I'd like to have it for a month to be comfortable with it. I've waited so long for something anyway.
Again, I think as a B roll to a 300mkII and both having TC you will be fine. The footage looks great and so did what people are doing with its RAW in post.
@wobbleman99, hopefully yours has slipped through.
