imagePROGRAF PRO-1100 Total Failure: Smeared print, part came loose

My Pro1100 which I just bought in March 2026, had a total failure. I started a print  and left the room, when I came back the print was done  but  the ink was smeared all over the paper and a piece of foam that is usually inside the carrier ? is now tangled where the paper comes out. print is on a letter sized  canon pro platinum paper. I only print maybe about once a week and the last print I did had a little banding at the last 1/2  inch part of the print.  I tried to get in contact with support but they are currently closed. Bought the printer thru Amazon but  didn't buy the extended warranty. Any advice on what to do?

Your printer is under warranty.  You should register it on https://www.usa.canon.com first, then contact support at 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666), Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM EST.  You should ask about purchasing the CarePak even though you are outside of the window - you never know.  If Canon will not sell you one after you get the printer repaired you can purchase a third-party warranty.  You bought the top of the line consumer printer, so it's probably worth getting a warranty.  At least I thought so when I got mine.   Or you can just factor in the cost of a new printer from time to time.  A full set of inks runs in the $700-800 range, and a new head about the same range.

If you bought directly from Amazon and not one of the myriad third-party resellers on Amazon you purchased from an authorized Canon reseller.  Amazon often uses other authorized resellers for their delivery.  If you find that you purchased directly from Amazon and they delivered a grey market item to you, I suggest that you contact Amazon for redress.  I had that happen to me twice with Amazon.  One time Amazon used an authorized reseller to satisfy the order and that reseller sent me a grey market item.  So I recommend awareness and caution for Amazon purchases.
