imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 has blue tint at top of black and white image

My pro 1000 is printing a blue/cyan tint at the beginning of a print job. The blue/cyan tint is 0.25" to as much as 3" and extends the entire width of the print. After this the print is normal. Happens with black and white or color prints. Print head shows all clear and I never see this happen on the plain paper nozzle test prints. Any suggestions?

Hello, curious what you ended up doing to fix this issue? New printer? My printer is less than 3 years old and Ive been having same issue w blue/cyan at beginning of print job, happens 35-50% time, its random , and super annoying since it ends up costing me $$ w paper, time etc., Hoping I can resolve without having to purchase new printer. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks  LanceIMG_9382.jpegIMG_9384.jpegIMG_9386.jpeg

Hi Lance,

May I ask you if you have the prograf 1000 or 1100 ?

I had the 1000 and started to have this problem after 7 years of use.

I called my reseller and he told me that it is probably the head, that I should change.
Problem is that changing the head + set of new inks cost the price of a new printer.
it was a real dilemma because I had a full set of ink in advance for the 1000, that I cannot use on the 1100 (thanks Canon to make this even more difficult).
I decided to wait.
A few days later I had to print for a client.
My printer shown an error number (I don’t remenber which one it was) saying that the printer needed to be serviced.
A quick search on google, lot of users say that this code basically says that the printer will no longer work. Canon won’t fix it.
it was the end of the story for me.
Didn’t purchase a new printer yet.

Michael, thanks for reply, I have the Pro-1000, besides this annoying blue/cyan issue its been my favorite printer, most reliable, consistent etc, Before this I always used Epson which had way more issues. Im a self employed photographer and I mostly make a living selling prints from my archive so I def can't afford to be w out pro printer. Ive heard the 1100 is pretty much the same, except for different ink cartridges which I agree, is really annoying. Guess I'll just keep plugging away until this thing becomes un-usable, (knocking on wood) who knows , maybe I'll just end up back in the dark room lol. thanks again, these forums do help, Lance

Hey Lance, my 1000 did this intermittently for about 3-4yrs before completely dying. Wasted lots of paper and ink in between. In hindsight I should have just resold my extra cartridges whilst people still had the model and counted my losses with the ink in the machine by upgrading sooner. It’s a very frustrating issue that’s for sure. But it was a workhorse for 6years! Great printer.
