Pro-300 error code 1851

I'm wondering if anyone has this issue with their Pro-300.  Bought this printer a year ago and everything was fine until today.  In the middle of printing, error 1851 "Multi-purpose tray is open, close it and select OK" popped up, and it stopped the job while my printing was half-way thru already.  The weird thing is, I have never used the multi-purpose tray and it was NEVER opened.  I followed the display instruction to "open" and then "close" the tray and select "OK."  But the error didn't go away. It stopped print job AGAIN, wasting ink and another sheet of paper.

The tray was never opened, but it kept telling me to "close" it.  I tried to reboot the printer, and still the same error.  I don't know how to "close" the tray when it was not "opened" at all.  Anyone knows how to fix this issue?  Is this a defect?  Thanks!

Hi,

I recommend performing a reset of the printer. While the printer is on, unplug the power cord from the printer. While the power is off, press the power button 5 times. After 60 seconds plug the power cord back in and power on the printer.

If the error pops back up the printer would require service. If the printer is in it's 1 year warranty, I recommend reaching out to Canon support for your warranty options. You will need to register your Canon gear HERE to access additional support options.

If the printer is out of warranty, you would qualify for the Canon Upgrade program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service or are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This program allows you the opportunity to purchase a replacement product discounted from the list price. Free ground shipping is included with your purchase.

If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please call our Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 Mon-Sat, 9 AM to 9pm EST excluding holidays.
