This topic has been discussed before, but my reading of responses has been confusing. The "knowledge" out on the web is that the printer will do a mini cleaning cycle every 60 hours (I believe only if there has not been a print made in that time span). Thus some advise doing a nozzle check print every 2 days to stop this cleaning cycle, reset the timer, and also use the bare minimum amount of ink and stop all of the massive ink wastage for big scheduled cleanings.
Is this advice correct? Is there a different schedule I should be using? My goal is to use the least amount of ink possible for non-printing use.
I do know to keep the printer "on" which puts it into a standby mode and not turn it on and off.
Thanks for your help. I use my printer intermittently and the expense of the ink wastage for cleaning is simply breathtaking.

A mess indeed. The "less that 24" time is most recent and seems to work well for me. YMMV.
I gave up trying to outsmart the printer. I do what I do and let it do what it does. At the end of the day I have never had a clog or print problem.
Happy printing!

I have seen similar recommendation for the Pro-100.

There is a lot of discussion/confusion on the topic. Jose Rodriguez is somewhat of an expert and has a lot of info on his YouTube channel about this. Recently, in a conversation with someone more knowledgeable, Jose learned that less than 24 hours was the magic number.
I use Qimage One as a print manager, and in it is a print schedule tool for a purge sheet at a defined schedule. I have mine set at 23 hours; my accounting manager tells me this costs me about .22 per sheet including paper. I just use cheap plain copy paper.

Thanks again for a generous reply. I too have watched some of his videos and some of the information seems conflicting. I one he states that it doesn't matter what you do, the cleaning cycle clock is relentless and cannot be affected. In another he mentions the 60 day idea and doing a nozzle check will do the trick within this time frame. Interestingly I yesterday had a long chat with Canon and they told me that the information on the timers and techniques of minimizing ink usage is unavailable and unknowable. What a mess! 🙂
