The MBK (Matte Black) shows empty after printing one (1) page on a brand new Pro-1000
.
Possible explanations
- the starter ink cartridge was defective
- they really only ship with like half a drop of ink, not even enough to get started (the other 11 cartridges, though, show about 40%)
- something is leaking and there's an awful spill of matte black somewhere inside the printer
- some circuit, like a sensor, is defective and the printer is basically a DOA
.
Not sure how to start troubleshooting, other than dropping $60 on a MBK cartridge in the hopes that the problem goes away.
.
(Canon publishes two telephone numbers for support, which I have dialed on two phones; both phones are now on hold, going on 30 minutes ... whatevs)

Looks like the cartridge was the problem! Hooray. New cartridge seems to have made it much happier.

phew, Canon finally picked up the phone, they're sending a new MBK cartridge, so in a few days I'll know whether the cartridge is at fault rather than something much worse.
