What is the most economical way to refill / replace ink? Prices seem to vary widely between buying in bulk and refilling original cartridges and getting new cartridges. Thoughts?

The imagePROGRAF PRO-1100 does not have refillable ink tanks.

You will find all of the compatible inks for this unit HERE.

If you prefer a model that can be refilled, take a look at the PIXMA G620

so the Pro-1100 is the samae as the proGraf 1100? It seems there are several videos on line about how to refill the Pro1100 with bulk ink and syringes. I am misinterpreting. [redacted link per guidelines]

The imagePROGRAF PRO-1100 is considered a professional-grade printer. It will provide professional-quality prints when using Genuine Canon inks.

The inks Canon has formulated specifically for this printer are designed to keep the unit running smoothly and provide the absolute best images possible that can last up to 300 years.

Using inks that Canon did not formulate can cause permanent damage to your printer. The chemicals used in cheap inks can leave residue on the printer's internal components, which can cause them to fail. Subpar dyes or pigments are often used, impacting the quality of your prints.

Of course, you can use any ink you prefer; however, please be aware that Canon USA is not responsible or liable for any damages or losses incurred by using non-Canon inks or toners. Any damages incurred due to the use of third-party inks or refilled cartridges are not covered by any Canon USA warranty.
