Hello,
Since the Canon PIXMA MG2929 printer and the iPad Air 11” (M2) do not have a direct wired connection port that they share, you cannot connect them with a cable. The PIXMA MG2929 relies on a wireless connection for printing, and there is no direct cable option available to connect it to an iPad.

I’m flat out of luck then

can I use the hot spot on my phone or tablet to connect with the printer wirelessly?

Greetings ,

No, this is not possible because devices connecting to your mobile device's hotspot are isolated from one another.

The MG2929 supports wireless direct.

This means you can connect your mobile device directly to the printer and print using the Canon print app.  Follow the instructions above to put the printer into access point mode. Open the Wi-Fi settings on your mobile device and look for the printer's broadcast.  Once the mobile device is connected to the printer, you will be able to use the Canon print app.
