. When I try to scan photos, I get an error message that the scanning software was unable to communicate with the scanner. Code: 5,157.69.
I have no problems printing , it's just the scan function. I'm using Canon-provided software - My Image Garden - to scan.
I have already reinstalled the drivers and done all the procedures requested in the manual, but the scanner still doesn't work, not even via USB connection.

I had the same error with my Canon turned out the scanner driver wasn’t fully installing even though it looked like it did. I ended up uninstalling everything (including My Image Garden), rebooting, then reinstalling the scanner driver first, then the rest. Also had to make sure Windows didn’t auto-install a generic driver. After that, it worked.
