How to check i-SENSYS driver version on Windows?

I feel stupid having to ask this, but then Canon is so obscure in how its devices work particularly for software and firmware upgrades, maybe it's Canon's fault.

Anyway. I have an i-SENSYS MF735cx. Canon recently announced (without including in the announcement just exactly which devices are affected) vulnerabilities in Generic Plus UFR II Printer Driver - V3.12 and earlier:

https://psirt.canon/advisory-information/cp2025-003/

How do I check, on a Windows system which prints to my MF735cx, which version of the driver is installed?

The software download page for this printer recommends an all-inclusive software bundle (MF735CMFDriverV5401WPEN), seemingly last updated BEFORE this vulnerability announcement, including SOME version of the Generic Plus UFR II driver, which from digging into the bundle's SETUP.INI file looks like V1.10:

Driver0=BDL,Canon Generic Plus UFR II V110,Canon MF732C/734C/735C UFR II,1.10.0.0

Except, that doesn't seem to make much sense, if the vulnerability is in versions 3.12 and before - would the most up-to-date driver for this €700 color laser MF machine be two major versions behind? It seems more likely that I'm not seeing the right information.

So, how, on Windows, do I check what Canon driver is installed, to determine whether I'm affected by this Canon software vulnerability?

Thank you, and apologies in advance if I really am just being stupid.

Hello!

To check your Canon i-SENSYS MF735cx driver version on Windows, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, select "Printer properties" (or "Properties"), and look under the "Advanced" tab for the driver information. If the version isn't there, check other tabs like "About" or use Print Management (printmanagement.msc) to find the "Canon Generic Plus UFR II Driver" under Drivers and view its properties. The V1.10 in the downloaded bundle's SETUP.INI might not be the currently installed version. If your installed version is 3.12 or earlier, it's vulnerable, and you should look for a specific updated driver (version 3.13 or later) on the Canon support page for your MF735cx, as they may release updates separate from the full software bundle.

Thank you - Microsoft makes this much too difficult. It took opening the printmanagement.msc control panel applet (Microsoft really doesn't want us easily "Control"ling things anymore, the stupid Windows 8-like features-missing "friendlier" "Settings" app garbage). And even then, the Printer itself had no way of showing the driver.

The list of installed drivers, as you (Thank you again) suggested, finds only the Canon Generic Plus UFR II V1.10 driver.

So now the question has to turn to, is Canon really leaving MF735cx (and probably similar series) owners to realize that they have to choose to install just a subpart of the overall driver package in order to get the security update? .. that they're going to leave the outdated, vulnerable older UFR II driver version in the all-in (except, not really!) software bundle that they "recommend" on the software download page for the device??

I'm frankly hesitant to install just a much never (v3.15) UFR II driver out of fear that such a large change may break functionality, though I guess I could always uninstall _everything_ and re-install the older version if necessary.

What a fustercluck...

Wow. Ouch. And: on the software download page, underneath the "recommended" omnibus package (which still contains UFR II driver v1.10) the individual drivers section actually has a horizontal tab bar on which you have to choose UFR II - the default is PCL 6 (which isn't even installed on my system, and if I just blindly chose that, I'd STILL have the UFR II v1.10 driver on the system). Canon, we need clarity, usability, reliability ... the MF printers (I own an ancient MF6550 and this MF735cx) from a hardware point of view are great; from a software/ maintenance point of view are Pains In The *ss !

*sigh* Sorry to keep posting/ complaining. Canon: "updating" (as the UFR II v3.15 package found my existing printer and offered to "update" it) ADDED a SECOND copy of the printer. AND left the outdated UFR II v1.10 driver still installed on the system. There HAS to be cleaner installation/updating. A typical user would 1. fail to be able to apply the update and secure the vulnerability at all; and 2. end up confused. This is simply poor quality.

Aha. You CAN find the driver version. Open the Printers Settings app, click on the printer, select the Device Settings tab, click About. Because, obviously, the DRIVER is something ABOUT the printer. If *I* get confused by this stuff (I've been working with computers since the late 1970s), I hazard to guess that *most* normal users would get confused by it.

Final status: I deleted the duplicate printer that "updating" the UFR II driver for my existing printer added.

I deleted the still-there-after-installing the v3.15 UFR II driver out-of-date v1.10 UFR II driver.

(I rebooted for good measure).

And the printer actually still works, at least as far as printing a test page.

I repeat: a fustercluck.

Again thanks to James015Sims for the pointer.
