Re: SX280 - battery life shooting video

I wrote earlier that I had applied the new firmware, and that everything was fine.  Well, I shot a little more video awhile ago, and the red flashing light immediately came on.  I turned the camera off, and then to "still" pictures, and the camera showed a full battery.  Anyway, to make a long story short, I just got back from Best Buy in Reno.  I returned the camera for a full refund.  I only had 15 days from date of purchase to return it.  I really liked the camera, and may just wait to purchase it agaiin when I hear that all problems have been resolved.

I am sorry I was impestuous and posted that the camera issues were resolved without giving it a thouough test.

Sony. WX 300. Great little camera. Bargain at $279. Not perfect but well worth it. Zoom. Battery. Pictures in movie mode. Decent WiFi setup. Nice settings. Great pictures. Screen a little weak. Very satisfied.

Re: SX280 - battery life shooting video

So, Canon, when thinking about the next firmware update, please focus not on the premature indication, but on the instability and dual personality (still and movie) of the battery indicator ... or buy us a better battery! :-)

Understood but I am not that much into manual modes. More a casual user.

Re: SX280 - battery life shooting video

!!! I'm having trouble installing the firmware !!!

According to the included update procedure, in the camera [MENU] you must scroll down to [Firm Update]

I do not have that item in my menu.

According to the screenshot in the procedure, the last 4 items in the menu are:

[Resume] <Last Seen>

[Transition] <Fade>

[Set Touch Actions...]

[Firm Update...]

In the menu on my camera, the last menu item is [Transition] there is no Set Touch Actions and no Firm Update...

Anyone having the same problem ?

Re: SX280 - battery life shooting video

I'm sorry, but I'm starting agree with all of the negative comments about Canon. First, when I took the camera out of the box, there was no sd card. Okay, I'm sure I didn't read that there WAS, but c'mon, Canon, why not include a card that would cost you $5 or less on a camera that costs as much as this one. So, insead of being able to use the camera right away, I have to go to the store to buy a card.

Next...well, read the last 40+ pages of this thread.

And now, in order to install the freakin firmware, I have to go and round up a card reader in addition to the card. They go to all this trouble to make a WiFi camera and we have to supply a card reader? One word: FAIL.

Why should I sweat over this on my own...I'm just going to send it in, and if it doesn't function when it comes back, I'll keep sending it in...over.....and over.....and over......

Well, in my opinion, it is immaterial whether the firmware update is successfull or not.  Canon does not solve the problem.

Re: SX280 - battery life shooting video

Uh, Macbook Pro, 17"...you'd think there'd be one, but noooo. Anyway, I'm in no hurry, since everyone is saying it's a minor improvement but not a fix.
