Powershot S2 IS problem...

Cr00zng
Apprentice

The camera is rather old and have not been used for awhile, it was purchased new long time ego.

Everything seems to be working, the view finder and the LCD shows all the current settings on the camera with a black background instead of the picture in focus. In another word, it does not show whatever it is pointed to in any of the picture capture settings. Pushing the button to take a picture shows three blue bars on the left hand side of the view finder and at times, it actually takes a picture that is the same as the view finder, just black background.

Recording video is the same, just a blank picture with black background, but the sound recording part works.

Is there an easy way to find out why the camere stopped taking images?

Tia...

Hello Cr00zng,

While the camera is in the 'P' mode, Program, press the <DISP> button on the back of your camera.  This will toggle the display back and forth, so press this a few times to change it.  If the issue persists, then there may be an internal issue that wouldn't be easily solved without service.

We regret to inform you however that Canon no longer services the PowerShot S2 IS.  However, you may participate in our Canon Loyalty Program instead.  This program allows you to replace your current camera with a refurbished Canon digital camera for a discounted fee, plus $10 shipping for Second Business Day delivery.

The refurbished units through this program carry a 90 day warranty.  The original non-functioning camera would then be returned to Canon with a prepaid label that would be provided.

If you would like to take part in this option, please call our Sales Department at (800) OK CANON seven days a week, 8am to Midnight.  Let them know you have been working with email technical support and the Canon Loyalty Program was offered.  Be sure to have your serial number for your camera at the time of your call.
