Well I'd guess if you've had your camera for a while now and thiis is something new then I'd suspect the memory card is holding things up and might be ready to fail. Or it is too full or something along those lines.
And if you camera is new I still would suspect the memory card first be sure it's the right speed class suggested in your full user manual at Canon.com
