only a hiss on video playback

I have a Powershot SX730 HS. When recording video, there is no sound - only a hiss/static type sound. I'm not sure if the mic is defective or if I have some setting wrong...

How or rather where are you Previewing the footage?

Right, here's your options:

1/- Does your camera allow you turn OFF Audio? You could have Audio OFF.

2/- I cant see how you can check your Mic, other than Check your Menu to see if you you've got an Audio Scale reacting to Audio.
