Please help. It has just started to happen. I have not dropped the camera. The battery is fully charged. We are going on vacation soon. I do not use it very often and it is brand new.

Yes that means your camera is busy trying to load the file. You may have a corrupt file on that card or the card itsetlf is corrupt.
Do you have another card to try?
Do you have computer you can try that card in and if it works save your files then put the card back in the camera and reformat it.
If you arent worried about what is on the card right now you can try to format it in the camera first.

I have tried numerous of my cards. The same thing happens with every card.

Ok try this, remove the battery and hold the power switch to on for at least 30 seconds then replace the battery and try again.
How new is your camera if its still under warranty you can call Canon for support or even service which I know you want to avoid since your heading on vacation.
