I want to use the canon g16 for a dashcam for an upcoming trip, but I can't seem to get the live view off when shooting video. The display button works fine for stills, but need to turn off the display to save battery
HELP!
thanks

Hey there tmlove,
Sorry to say, the camera doesn't have an option to disable the LCD screen while recording movies since it has no other viewing alternative. A different product like a Vixia camcorder would be a better fit for this use since you can simply close the LCD screen and it will power off.

If it has an HDMI output, you might just plug a cable in and see if that turns off the display.
