Thanks for posting!
While our Forum Community members are welcome to chime in, the PowerShot SD890 IS has been retired. That means we do not offer support for the camera. We recommend updating to a more modern camera and reaching out to our Canon Upgrade Program specialist who will go over the best options for upgrading your printer. They can be reached at 866-443-8002.

Greetings,
The camera itself is not rare. I have one in its box on one of the shelves in my office. It still works 😄.
If you're hearing grinding noises when you power it on, it's likely the lens motor or mechanism (teeth) has failed or broken. It might be extremely challenging to find someone who could inspect or repair it. It might also not be cost effective given its age. I would put money towards a replacement. Check out the PowerShot! v1. It's on back order in the Canon store, but B&H has them in stock.

Having someone else fix it, if they even can, will likely be cost prohibtive.
Don't know what your do-it-yourself abilities are, but you might look for some online videos from people that have had similar issues with the same model camera. You may find some relatively simple fixes that might work for you, as well as some far more challenging repairs.
If money is an issue your best bet is probably to search for a similar used, newer model camera that has the features you need or want.
