My canon G9 apparently has a problem with the CCD or CCD sensor - the view screen shows only a very very dark purplish image of the subject matter and the pictures it takes (shutter is working) are similar to the view scene image - very very dark ...
Note the view screen displays all menu items and past pictures from SD card without a problem.
I have read there was a bad batch of CCDs in the past that had early life failures and even after warranty expiration, were still replaced by Canon?
I have two G9s, this has been the workhorse, other is fine.
Is there any easy remedy and possibly a fix by Canon, or am I sol?

Greetings,
Before assuming the device is faulty, I would test with a new or alternate freshly charged battery, no memory card and after resetting the device to factory defaults.
The G9 was released in 2007. Its 16 yrs old and retired. If you have another model (example G9 X mkII) released in 2017, it may still be serviceable.
To see your service options, you need to register the device at MyCanon
I didn't find much information on used models. New, the mkII is $629. Even if you own the newer model, repair may exceed actual value and replacement might be a better option. G7x or G5x series.
