PowerShot G9 How to keep shutter open for long time

Sandro
Apprentice

Hi all. I'm new to the forum.

My camera: Canon Powershoot G9.

Is it possible to open the shutter, leave it open for hours and then shut it?

In old film cameras the functions were called B and T.

With B the shutter stays open whilst the trigger button is depressed.

With T the shutter stays open until next depressing of the button.

Is there a similar function in the G9? i would like leave the camera pointing to the Zenit with an open shutter through all night to catch falling stars.

If this is possible with the G9 please give me instructions on how to do it. Also, which aperture is advisable?

Thanks in advance

Sandro

Hi Sandro!  Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The PowerShot G9 is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!

You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them Monday through Friday at 1-866-443-8002.

Hope this helps!

The camera itself does not have that capability. It is 15 seconds max.
