So I am a teacher and had a student bring me his school-issued camera. It is a PowerShot SX540 HS. When we turn the camera on, the little green light by the play button blinks rapidly, and then I get a Lens Error message, and the camera automatically shuts down. Is there a way to fix this on my own? Or do I need to take it into a shop? or is it worth it at this time?

Hi there,
It is most likely not repairable by yourself, the lens error is usually caused by misalignment inside the lens barrel and often that can mean broken tracks in the telescoping design. You can get a rough estimate with the online repair form (linked below) but theres a good chance replacement is the way to go.
