GPS data not getting from iPhone to PowerShot G1 X Mark II

The manual suggests that it can be done, but after an hour of working on it I still can not get GPS data from my iPhone to the G1X. What am I missing?

While I can't get the G1X to bring GPS data from my iPhone down to the camera via Wi-Fi, I can use Camera Connect to import images and remotely operate the camera. That tells me that the Wi-Fi link between my iPhone and my G1X is working as designed. The problem is that the GPS location data from the iPhone is not getting to the camera. I have location services on the iPhone set to "while using app" which works fine for virtually all apps.

It sounds like you're having trouble geotagging images with your PowerShot G1 X Mark II. Here are a few things to check:

  1. Location Permissions: On your iPhone, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services. Find the Camera Connect app and make sure the location permission is set to "Always." The "While Using the App" setting might not be sufficient for background geotagging.
  2. App in Foreground: For reliable geotagging, keep the Camera Connect app open and in the foreground on your iPhone while you are taking pictures. Switching to other apps or locking your phone might interrupt the GPS data transfer.
  3. Check Camera Settings: On your G1 X Mark II, double-check the GPS settings in the camera menu to ensure that it is set to receive GPS data from your smartphone.

If you've checked all of these and it's still not working, there might be an issue with the app or the camera's firmware. Contact Support directly for further assistance. They can walk you through more advanced troubleshooting steps.
