I am shooting video with a 16GB SD card and it seems to stop automatically after 10 minutes.  Is that a setting that I can fix so I can record for a half hour or more?

According to page 206 of the User Manual, when the camera is capturing HD 1080p 59.94 fps NTSC (or 50 fps PAL), it will only allow for 10 minutes of continuous recording time.

If you reduce the framerate to 29.97 or 23.98 for NTSC (or 25 for PAL), it will then allow for continous recording up to 29 min, 59 sec.  Longer still for 720p or SD footage.

Cameras were not designed for video and such limitations were done for various reasons.

To have effectively unlimited* recording time, look into a dedicated camcorder.

* With camcorders that have two card slots set up to relay record, you can swap out cards when one is full and keep the recording going for as long as you have empty cards to write to.
