Yesterday my g9’s battery died suddenly and went completely blank and the camera didnt retract. I charged the battery and plugged it in and the camera retracted and popped back out when I turned it on but now the camera shoots all black. If i hit it right it turns pink, and will change in tone slightly depending on the light situation. It would be more expensive to fix this camera than replace it but I just got it so I don’t want to have wasted this money for one month worth of use. No hitting the display button various times doesn’t work and neither does shaking it. Is it really just wasted money now or is there anything I can do that isn’t sending it in for 50+ dollars?

Hi and welcome:
Sorry to be the bringer of bad news but, to be honest, it seems like a fault in the camera that would require service. You can call 1-800-OK-Canon to talk to a service agent, but I suspect it will not be fixable and if it was technically possible the cost would definitely exceed the value of the camera. In that case, you would be better to replace it with something newer and from a source that offers a warranty.
If you wish to pursue that avenue, consider Canon's refurbished camera site. These are new but over-stock, new but open box, demo, or display models. 'Good as new' and come with a Canon 1-year warranty.
