PowerShot SX520 HS doesn't stay on for long or won't turn on at all

My Powershot camera suddenly would not turn on/open, even though I had charged the battery the day prior. My spare battery was also recharged and had the same problem, though I was able to take a few photos and then the charging light reversed from green to read and the camera again would not open. It seems if I recharge either battery to green, I have a very brief time operating and then the camera won't open. I am thinking of buying a new battery and see if this works, otherwise, I believe that the fault may be in the camera. I have been told the nearest camera service is 120kms away from my home in the country.

 So am I plus perhaps a new charger

It is not a good candidate for repair since the repair and/or even the shipping could be as much or more than the camera is worth. If you want a replacement X520HS look for a good used one.

Thanks. I have decided that plan A is to buy a new battery online and see if that will get my camera working. It is in the mail, now.
