Canon Powershot SD1200 IS will take videos but not pictures.

My camera will take videos perfectly fine but when i switch into the photo setting, the screen goes black except for all of the settings that display. I tried recharging the battery already and that didn’t work. It happened out of nowhere, i’m not sure how to proceed. please help!!!!
