Canon PowerShot ELPH 170IS Battery Issue?

I have a PowerShot ELPH 170IS, which is having a battery issue. Originally, it wouldn't charge, which I have fixed, but the original problem that I can't fix is the battery in the camera. I charge the battery and put it in the camera, the lens extends out an inch, then stops and nothing else happens. I even put my battery in the charger again, it went to orange for a few seconds, then to green. I need help ASAP because I need to do a project with it, please help, thanks.

If nothing happens when you press the shutter, your camera may be defective.
