Cannot focus PowerShot SD700 IS

I have a Canon PowerShot SD700 I.S. that I want to try to take photos and videos with, but when I use auto focus it just makes the image more blurry. Any ways to fix this?

There are so many reasons a camera will not autofocus.....both the hardware and the user.

Does the camera focus at all, ever? Are you too close to the subject? Too dimly lit room?

Only after you be more specific about what you are doing can we be of help.

Hi content1ve!  Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The PowerShot SD700 ID is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!

You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you find a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.

Hope this helps!

Sometimes it focuses if I turn Macro mode on, does that do anything?

Macro Mode is for closeups. Forget about macro mode for now. Sounds like you are floundering around. You need to set the camera as if you're new to it. Follow the Basic Guide from the beginning. You need to see if the camera is functional at all. Setting it to the most automatic settings, and seeing if it is focusing is a start. You also have to not be too close to your subject. Take pictures across a room, outdoors etc. Does it focus?
