My Canon Powershot SD1400IS ELPH was dropped and the battery cover fell off. I saw some comments saying that the camera may not work without the battery cover, as there is some sort of trigger that only works when it is closed. Could anyone help me find where this trigger is at, or have any advice. Thanks!

Hello, @caitlyn1
Inspect the Battery Compartment:
Look for a small notch, tab, or switch near the edge of the battery compartment where the door would typically close. This is often a tiny mechanical or magnetic sensor.
Examine the Battery Cover:
Check if the battery cover has a small protrusion, tab, or magnet that aligns with the trigger inside the battery compartment. If you still have the cover, this can help you identify the mechanism.
Test with a Tool:
If you can identify the trigger inside the compartment, you can gently press or manipulate it with a small tool like a toothpick or a non-conductive object. Do not use metal tools, as they may cause a short circuit.
Inspect for Damage:
Check if the trigger is stuck, bent, or missing. If it’s damaged, it might need repair.
Temporary Fixes:
Tape or Rubber Band: If the battery cover is missing but you can align the battery securely in the compartment, use tape or a rubber band to hold it in place and press down on the trigger.
Replacement Part: Search online for a replacement battery cover for the Canon Powershot SD1400IS ELPH. eBay or specialized camera parts websites often have spare parts for older models.
DIY Fix: If the cover is broken but still present, you might be able to reattach it using strong adhesive or by crafting a temporary cover from sturdy materials like plastic or cardboard.
Caution:
Avoid forcing anything into the compartment or using materials that could short-circuit the battery or camera.
If the camera doesn’t power on after triggering the switch, there could be additional internal damage from the drop, and you may need professional repair.
Best Regards
