Connecting Powershot SX740 HS Lite to a Windows 10 PC via USB cable

Penda
Apprentice

I have very recently purchased this camera. I have previously been able to connect other Powershot cameras to my computer via the appropriate USB cable with NO problems. With my SX740 it just keeps making digital ding dong noises and under devices the canon camera icon appears intermittently. It never connects with my computer.

Please help - What can I do to enable the download images from my camera to my PC via USB cable (IFC-600PCU USB).

Many thanks.

Problem now solved - plugged into a USB slot around the back of the computer and now works fine!!!

Just will not work from the two USB slots on the front of my PC. ALL other other USB devices work fine here!  Strange, Why? but a happy ending.

Hello, Penda!

Thanks for contacting Canon USA. At this time, we do not sell or support the SX740 HS Lite, so you'll need to contact Canon in your country or region for help with this concern. Get started at https://global.canon/en/support

The camera SHOULD appear in File Explorer as a drive.  If it does not:

1. If camera has WiFi capability, disable it to use USB connection.

2. Try another USB cable. Doesn't have to be Canon's. Any USB A -to-Mini B cable works.

3. Try the camera on another computer.

If nothing works, you may have a bad camera USB port.

Get an SD card-to-USB adapter, put your SD card in it and transfer that way.

Many thanks for getting back.

I am currently downloading files from the camera to my PC via a card reader.

However, I would much prefer to do this via a usb cable I have done with my previous powershot cameras, (and still can with my old powershot cameras). However, I get this repeated electronic "ding dong" noise when I plug my new SX740 into my PC , the canon camera icon appearing very intermittently in "devices". I am sure it is something simple but . . .

It connects perfectly with my wife's laptop.

If any one can help it would be really appreciated.

There. That wasn't so hard, was it?

So simple - except that this desktop was under my desk, the slot was at the back  and it took a lot of bending to put things right!!
