printer gives error message out of paper

I have a Canon MF445dw, brand new. My paper tray is full, but error message says out of paper. I only have one tray. Set my settings to Tray 1. Any suggestions as to what to do?

Hi ravenna.

Try registering the paper loaded in the paper drawer. Once you have it registered there, make sure you match it to the Media Type in the printer's driver.  Mismatches may force you to manually confirm the print job each time.

Now I am getting an error message that says, "Cannot use USB hub. Direct connection ended."  What do I need to do?  I have a connection from the printer to my ThinkPad docking station. but cannot print.

Hi, ravenna.

The docking station is acting, in part, as a USB hub.  Hubs transmit data on a "shotgun" approach, with the first device to respond to a signal taking priority.  Directly connecting the printer to a USB port will bypass such communication issues.
