I took this piece off my Canon imageCLASS MF731Cdw printer and cannot figure out where it goes back. I was trying to find a paper jam at the time from the rear access.

This looks like a part of the duplexer, but I don't know exactly where it fits.  I'm recovering from back issues and cannot get behind my 656 at the moment.  I'd contact support.  They can probably help.
