What is difference between 'MF' and 'D' series Mono Multifunction ImageClass Printers?

The compare tool does not seem to work on these if the different sieres are selected for compare (crazy) and it is hard to see any difference BUT THERE MUST BE - otherwze why would they exist other than to confuse us.

Please help ASAP - I need to buy something like the D550 or MF229dw or higher end soon.

(Department printer-  looking for heaviest duty 'for the money', ability to scan to multiple eMail address book reciepients, networking, cost per page, etc)....wireless not needed- just wired networking , - duplex not really needed although nice option I guess (most users will forget to use it).
