Local Staples store has a sale on G7020 ink tank printers. Want to purchase one, but know from past experience ( we’ve owned several Canon tank printers and like them a lot) that they should never be positioned anything but right side up. The new in unopened box printers are on display with the boxes on their sides. Is it ok to do that for a new in box tank primter. They are holding on for me pending confirmation that it’s ok to but the new ones in unopened boxes on their sides. In defense of the store doing that, the warning on the box not to place it anything but right side up is not very obvious. I had to look hard to find it, and I knew it was there. Please respond quickly as I don’t know how long they will be able to hold one for me at the sale price. Thank you.

Thanks for getting back to me. I had a telecon on the Canon Support Line and the representative assured me that there is not a problem with placing an unopened ink tank printer ink it’s packaging on its side, as the new units do not have any ink in them until it’s added from the supplied ink bottles doing initial installation after unpacking. However, because of the importance of never positioning a printer that has ink installed any way but upright, I recommend that more visually prominent warning labels be placed on the exterior of the packaging in case the printer is ever placed back in the box for storage or shipping.
