ImageCLASS MF4880dw: Computer cannot commuicate with printer / scanner error

I am running Win 11 Pro.  Version 24H2.  Installed 01/23/2025.  OS build 26100.2894

Printer is Cannon ImageCLASS MF4880dw

Not the first issue with this latest Windows update but the first time I tried to run the scanner since the current OS version was installed.

When I start up Canon MF Toolbox 4.9, the window is greyed out, there is an empty oval above all of the utilities.  When I click on the Settings button, the scanner is there (Canon MF 4800 ser_nnnnnnnnn), along with Computer Name, etc.  I then click OK and the MF Toolbox is correct.  But then when I click on Color Scan I get the following error:

Cannot communicate with the scanner.

The cable may be disconnected, or the scanner may be turned off.

I can print with this printer.  So the cable is ok.  I've recycled power on the printer, and restarted the computer multiple times.

I'm not sure what to do next.  I would include screen shots of what I'm seeing but I don't see a way to add those - just photos and videos.  Any thoughts on what i should do next?

I decided to try downloading the Windows driver from the Canon support page and install it.  This fixed my problem.  I don't know that the driver that I installed today is actually any different than the one I downloaded / installed last April when I bought this computer.

But nonetheless it works.  My problem is solved.  Not sure how to label this question as such.  Hopefully somebody else having this issue with the latest Windows 11 OS update can see this question and save themselves a bit of hassle.
