New imageCLASS MF656Cdw won't connect to laptop, previous one did

I had a Canon Imageclass MF656cdw and it was warrantied out. It was set up on my Dell laptop and worked great. Now, I can't get the new Canon Imageclass MF656cdw to connect to the same Dell laptop. I contacted Canon support and they weren't able to get my printer to connect to my laptop. They gave me a work around printing from the Canon app on my phone. It's not easy to print this way. Is it because the drivers for the original printer are still installed or does that matter in connecting the new printer? I just want to be able to print from my laptop.

Greetings,

Like most complex peripherals, you can't just unplug one and replug another and expect it to work.

Let's confirm a few things. Your Dell laptop is running Windows 11.  What version and build of Windows?  Build means the feature release.  (23H2, 24H2), etc.

How are you connecting the printer and to what?  Wireless, USB, Ethernet?

I suggest you uninstall the old printer and remove all of the installed Canon Software.  Then restart your system.

Now visit the MF656Cdw support portal and download the latest drivers.

https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/color-imageclass-mf656cdw

Grab the MF drivers/UFRII/ScanGear package and the MF Scan Utility v1.21.0.2

These are the only two you need.  If you are connecting to a network, get the printer connected first.  If you're installing using USB, run the software and connect the printer when prompted to do so.  🙂
