Canon selphy Qx20 printer register/connection issue

I've followed the instructions in the manual. The battery is charged. It gives 3 green blinks when powered off. when I try to register my printer by scanning the QR code I get this error box  "connection has failed - error check printer power".

When I try to register it manually it gives me this error box  "connection has failed check printer power and input data".

 

I can't seem to register the device and therefore unable to use it.

Please contact one of Canon's Technical Support Representatives via phone or chat. To contact a Technical Support Representative, please use the link below to log into your My Canon account:

https://mycanon.usa.canon.com

Once logged in, click on your QX-20 and then click on the Product Support button. When that page loads, click on either the Phone Support button or the Chat Support button to access support. A Technical Support Representative can determine the cause of the issue and resolve it or provide you with your available service options.
