Superimposed letters when printing

Edimerq

Hi,

When printing, some lines come written with double letter effect: For example, the word "is: comes written like iiss. The letters are so close that are almost on top of each other. Some times they are so close the word looks like is written in bold letters. This does not happen to all of the text on the page, but to many parts of it. Some time it is just a phrase or two in one line, sometimes, is a whole sentence, sometimes the whole line or more is written like that. In a full page, about 3/4 of it comes like that. It looks like h---

The problem happens whether I print a word document or a web page.

I've checked Google, Microsoft forums, and Cannon forums for an answer, but can't find anything that helps.

I went to Properties and did almost everything in Maintenance: Cleaning, Head alignment, Nozzle check, Bottom plate cleaning, Alignment, Tried manual alignment in Custom Settings. I even tried cleaning inside the printer, and behind the ink cartridges with a q tip. Nothing helps.

The printing or the columns when checking the Head Alignment were not straight. After doing the alignment, they appeared straighter, but not completely straight after printing again. But I don't know how they are supposed to look like.

In Word, I tried double checking my page set up, and also double checked my format and style settings. All was fine there.

My printer is only about 4 months old. It  is Pixma MX432. I have Windows XP and IE 8 in my desktop, and Windows 8 and IE 10 in my laptop, but printing is the same no matter what computer I use. I have been sharing this printer with this 2 computer since I got it, and never had any problems until these last couple of weeks.

Any suggestions anybody?

Thanks, E

Hi 🙂 I had the same problem and it turned out to be ink smudged on the clear tape looking band that is right above an oily track if you look directly into the front of the printer. I used Q-tips and cleaning solution (but I've read that you can just use water) to gently wipe off any ink or grease of whathaveyou that is not supposed to be obstructing the clear nature of that band. One mine was clean I stopped getting superimposed letters and my printing became legible and I felt much better! I hope this works for you although hopefully you solved your problem by no since your post is from 4 years ago...
