Selling Gear on this Forum

Peacefield

Hi, All.  I used to be very active on this forum while working as a professional wedding and portrait photographer.  I retired many years ago and it has been probably a decade since I've been on this forum; long enough that I actually needed to establish a new profile.

As photography has returned to only a hobby for me, I'm looking at a case full of gear that is sitting idle and there is new gear calling my name.  I'm not inclined to use eBay or outfits like MPB to sell what I no longer need.  Back in the day, there was a forum category here where members could list equipment for sale to other forum members.  I'm not finding that now though; has that been discontinued?

Greetings,

If you have gear to sell, I would suggest B&H, Adorama, MBP or KEH.  This will get the gear out of your home and put money or new gear in your pocket or hands.  I just sold a Sigma lens on OfferUp.  This however requires more work.  I've had good luck with it, but moving items can take time and you have to deal with lowballers from time to time.

I have used both MPB and Keh.

In several occasions MPB reported back and rated my item at a higher level than I did.

Direct selling can probably get a higher price but to me there is a value to the hassle-free dealings with MPB and Keh.

Thanks, everyone.  I'm in NJ and have used Adorama and B&H often for purchasing new but I see quite a bit on-line as to how a sell or trade-in process with either of them can really drag on.  I guess I'll go with MPB or Keh as they do seem to have a lot of positive feedback.  It makes me a little sick to see the quotes from them but I guess that's just the nature of things.  Cheers.

This is exactly why I sell private party, but as John pointed out selling to the used department of a larger retailer simply gets the job done.  Yes sometimes their offers are cringeworthy but you have to be willing to accept it if you want the stuff gone.  They have to be able to make a fair profit to.

I have only good things to say about MPB, B&H and Adorama - never used anyone else.  If you want more $$ and are willing to deal with people (and all that entails) face to face locally, I've used Facebook Marketplace.  I prefer that over eBay, for some reason, though I've used eBay as well.   Both of those have downsides.  I've found scammers on FB aren't willing to come to me and meet at a place convenient to me to get the gear.  I do NOT mail anything on FB.   Fredmiranda.com requires a login, but I know they allow posting your used gear there.  Let us know what you decide to do and how it works out!
