I purchased a Canon CanoScan LiDE 220. I will use it with my new iMac running OS X 10.11.4. I just replaced an older HP scanner with this model.
The Canon downloads site shows that five software applications are available for download. Their terse descriptions provide little information about them. They are:
CANOSCAN
Canon IJScanner6
IJ Scan Utility2
Quick Menu_261
IJ ScanGear Start EX
OS X has identified the LiDE 220. I added it to System Preferences Printers & Scanners, quite easily.
My primary use for my scanner is photographs and legal documents. I would use it for OCR, very infrequently, if any of this software provide OCR capability. Typically, I crop a scanned photograph, before I save it as JPEG or TIFF (primary) or PNG (secondary). I never used the hard buttons on the old scanner, and, likely wouldn't use them on the LiDE 220.
I use OS X Photos for my photograph collection.
I don't need integration with Dropbox, or, any other service.
What is the purpose of these five applications? I want to download and install only those applications that I need, and, will use.
