Hello:
I have been asked to help shoot a gymastics event, mostly childrens balance beam.
Curious to know if anyone has done it. Seems it's going to be a long day.....

It is flakey at best. I have used it. I have gotten it to work. I don't like it. I see it as a solution to a problem we didn't have.
But, the 7D2 is very good at focusing on moving subjects. Don't count it out. I have AF points light up across the viewfineder as the subject has moved, and every shot has been in focus.
I would compare it to the static displays of active AF points you see when you are in Green [A] mode, with several points lit up. Just the points that can lock focus light up, but they all seem to fall on the moving subject, tracking it quite well.
