Canoscan 9000F no longer recognized by iMac after El Capitan.

I cannot get the scanner recognized after upgrading to El Capitan.  I have d/l what Canon says is the latest driver but still not ther. I  have looked on the web but no one seems to have a sure fire fix.

Well, I followed the advice and I am able to control the scanner from the iMac.  But I cannot add it to "Print and Scanners" so the auto buttons on it don't work.  It just doesn't show up.

ScanGear Backlight Control not available. Grayed out no matter what configuration or mode. Any ideas.
