I have a Canon Scan 9000f Mk 2. How can I scan directly to my files on hard drive without going through 'My Image Garden' which I find useless.

The 9000F Mk2 uses the IJ Scan Utility to scan. In the Scan Utility, you should see a Settings button. In the settings menu, select the appropriate scan on the left (Auto, Photo, Document, etc.), then go to the "Save Settings" and select the appropriate folder. Now the scans will save to the folder you want.
To stop My Image Garden from opening scans, go beloe "Save Settings" (in the same screen), to "Application Settings" and fill in the bottom radio button that is labeled "Do not start any application". Now My Image Garden won't open when you scan.
