Canon Interested in a Retro Model? If so, what would you like to see?

According to Canon Rumors, "it appears Canon is actively asking customers which of their most iconic camera bodies customers would like to see again, but with a modern take."

Obviously, Nikon has found a viable market for its Df, Zfc and Zf models and I have seen lots of comments from fellow shooters that it would be nice if Canon did the same, so perhaps this is a possibility.

If I could have my choice, I would like to see something that echoed the Canon A-1.  It was a ground-breaking in that it offered a range of shooting modes that were revolutionary at the time, but are now expected.  I shot with two of them for some years and loved it.  I would love to see a MILC version of that.

I can see some value from Canon's point of view because it provides the most appeal to modern shooters because of those multiple modes, something that the Nikon Df came against, even though it was not intended to be considered in the context of its contemporaries or appeal to the same market space as them.  That said, it is obvious for a camera to be commercially successful these days it needs the market appeal and that means shooting choices, and video. I would personally prefer to see a stills only unit, but I recognize that this is unlikely...

AE-1 Program. AE-1. EF.  I have these and also an A-1. The A-1 is an amazing camera, but it is almost TOO complicated. A digital version may be too much.

I suspect that most of those who respond will favour the camera they have used and to which they have a personal connection - just as you and I do.

Given that, forceach function or feature that they omit. They also reduce the market, that logic suggests to me that they will learn for Nikon's experience and create something more akin to the Zf in terms of features - and that's loaded for bear!

Yeah, well, my dream is an AE-1 Program camera with a digital sensor and memory. Just a digital image recorder, in other words, instead of film.  None of the tons of unnecessary (to me) features that are thrown into digital cameras today.  Oh, and I'd have to have a battery grip.

Call me old-fashioned.😊
