Budget Cameras for short films

This probably makes me sound very cheap, but is there any canon camera that is acceptable for short films for under $500? doesn't matter if it's a camcorder, dslr, mirrorless, used or new.

What will be the lighting in a typical scene? By short films, I'm assuming you'd have time to set up each scene?

I think the V10 is more of a vlogging camera since it has a fixed wide-angle lens (19mm).  Of course that may be what the OP is after.

Ricky,

Yes.  Any of the new R series bodies can probably do the trick if budget allows.
