I will never buy any equipment from Canon i am horrified by their lack of response about their melting rubber on binocular that cost $800.00

You will find that situation on anything that is rubber coated, no matter what the cost. It doesn't melt, it deteriorates. Synthetic material will deteriorate over time. I have bite alarms for fishing...same thing: sticky, sticky. You can try to peel it off or coat it with talcum powder. Either way is messy and make things worse.
